Confused about medication times

I have been type 2 for a couple of years and am managing well on medication (Metformin,Bestatin etc.) and eating sensibly.
The medication is to be taken AFTER breakfast. My shift pattern is variable but I do not usually get to bed before 02:00 or 03:00.
Does "breakfast" mean the first meal of the day (around noon) or should I wake at 08:00 -eat a snack-take medication then back to sleep.
In other words --- does "after breakfast" mean early in the morning or does it mean after the first meal of the day? And is the ingest of food important?

Hi. I would interpret that wording as taking immediately after finishing breakfast (only my opinion). Normally Metformin isn't that critical about when taken although obviously the same time each day and I think most docs and the drug companies say to take with food; see what the leaflet says. If you are on Metformin SR, the Slow Release version, it's even less critical. Talk to the pharmacist if necessary.
