Hi people,
I have been newly diagnosed with type 2. last week the Nurse told me I had a very high reading of 102. Today I bought a Gluco RX Q glucose monitoring system which gave me a reading of 28.5 mmo/L. Can anyone tell me how these two numbers (102/28.5) relate to each other. Thanks in advance.

The Hba1c measures how much glucose has stuck to your blood cells over their lifetime. The higher your blood sugar levels have been, the more glucose will have stuck. Blood cells usually hangs around for about 12 weeks , so the Hba1c is a sort of 12 week average of your sugar levels.
Your meter measures what your blood sugar level is at any moment .
28 mmol is very high, I would re wash my hands and do another test to confirm that high result.

There is a converter for Hb1Ac from mmol/mol to mmol/L, noting the Hb1Ac is an average over ~3 months, while the glucose monitor reading is a spot reading of the current blood glucose level:

Thanks folks with your help. Gives me a better understanding of those figures. will try again with the tester.
