Hi,
I am a newly diagnosed type 1 I'm still trying to get my head round the whole diagnosis as I'm a 40 year old mum of 3 who only felt thirsty and was weeing a lot over the weekend and then the next day was having to inject 4 times a day. So my question is probably really daft but I wasn't sure what to do about snacks. I'm currently injecting novorapid with every meal and then lantus at night but I not sure as to what to do regarding a snack between meals. Say for instance if your on the beach with the kids and fancy an ice cream, is that ok? Do you need to inject any novorapid or will your injection from your earlier meal still cover it? As I've only been diagnosed a couple of weeks I'm not carb counting yet.

Hi ZOE 03
Welcome to the forum :)
at diagnosis there is a heck of a lot to take in.

as you are not carb counting I am thinking you are taking fixed doses of novorapid at mealtimes.
and hopefully have been advised a bit what to eat for these meals.

the way to be sure about snacks is to test your blood sugar .

really you should be doing this any way but by testing and seeing what sort of level you are will give an idea as to what sort of size and type of snack would be ok in between meals.

and an odd ice cream should be fine anyway -- we do have to keep living our lives after all.

Hi
Thankyou I'm sure once I'm a bit more clued up I will get the hang of it. Fingers crossed :-)
