I have had my first hospital visit today after starting insulin and was told I was testing myself too much. I have recently got back on the wagon with my diabetes and am low carbing to bring down my numbers. I test on waking/before breakfast (usually the same one) then 2 hours after every meal and before meals. My DN told me to test before bed so have added this one in.

Today I was told to only test twice a day and alternate which ones I do. I get my strips on prescription but not sure they will continue if I am getting through them at this rate? How often do you test when low carbing, am being very strict with my carbs until my figures come down.

I normally test four times a day. I drive so, according to the good old DVLA, I have to test before each car journey. I then to at least two other tests a day. It's often more than this.

A lot of NHS Trusts are trying to limit the number of strips given to diabetics. For me, I test when I need to. I wish I could get away with 1 or 2 a day, but the reality is I need to test much more often!
