Confused but considering insulin

Hi All,

I was diagnosed in 2014 and since have been a bit up and down with my management. Well mostly down to be honest. After the initial denial, anger and why me stage I tried Meformin both versions and couldn't handle it as I have IBS and it literally decimated my stomach. The second thing I tried was victosa which I injected subcutaneously. I didn't tolerate that well at all, it gave me continual sulphur burps and froze my food in my stomach for some 18 hours at a time. So I quit that. The next thing I've tried is Sitagliptin, which caused my Pancreas to bubble and groan like a gastro infection. So I quit that, and just as well as I've just researched the side effects and risks of pancreatic cancer,

So from about March 2016 onwards I've been in freefall, not taking any meds, not watching what I eat and barely exercising until recently I bought a husky and go for daily walks. My DSN at last review suggested taking metformin again which I declined and she said she'll give me one last chance to diet control before insulin. I said I wouldn't do insulin as I already weigh 120kg and find it hard to lose, the last thing I need is more weight. She said insulin does not always equal weight gain but I don't believe her, so I thought I'd check here?

I know I sound like a right madam not taking my T2D seriously, but to be honest its not that, its the fact I suffer from multiple health conditions that leave me in difficulty most days and I also have a son with a severe mental health condition and my homelife is incredibly stressful because of the impact of his behaviour towards other siblings. I've now got to the point where I barely sleep, I'm ill and tired constantly, can't fight off bugs, continual skin problems and spend most of my days hyperglacemic. I have to go for a 24 heart monitor because of palpitations and have been prescribed a statin which I won't take because of risks of musclar deterioration which I can't risk with my other health issues.

I'm going to the doctors and considering asking outright for insulin next week, but don't know what to ask for? long acting seems the easiest option due to my hectic life. Anyway if you've read this far thank you, I just needed to get this off my chest. Does insulin always cause massive weight gain?

Hi,
I'm sorry for what your going thru, my mum gained weight with insulin and my uncle didn't.
You need to get your blood sugars under control, there are other drugs you could try first before going onto insulin.
Stress raises blood glucose as I'm sure you know.
Short acting may fit into your hectic schedule better.
Hope you feel better very soon
Take care
