I was diagnosed type 2 in May and have now got to the stage where I feel more in control despie the fact that often we have to guess how things are going. Fortunately someone from this site donated a tester to me but as I have to buy the bits I do not test, perhaps, as often as I should.

I have not been feeling 100% for the past few days and this morning I tested before I ate anything as my skin feels 'fizzy' [especially hands and feet ] and I have a bit of a headache. I was 7.9 which is a bit high for me now [usually between 5 and 7 before food nowadays] and then nearly 2 hours after eating was 5.5.

Is this normal? I do get rather confused sometimes as to where it should be but usually I am higher after food [is that wrong?]
I am also feeling very tired and lazy at the moment but try and do some bits and pieces with rests between

thank you for reading this

Hi there. You will be higher after eating than before. In an ideal world, two hours after eating our BG will be back to where it was BEFORE eating. But most of us aren't ideal! Providing you're under 7.8 two hours after you've done ok. Your high morning reading is because of the Dawn phenomenon where our body gives us cortisol to wake us up. This raises our BG to give us our start for the day. Unfortunately, as diabetics we can't get it back down as quick as we should. Don't worry about fasting BGs, save your precious strips for testing after eating to get your diet right. Your morning BGs will sort themselves out then. Your after meal readings sound really good, so well done!
