Hi,
My daughter is 15 years old and just had OGTT-results below:

Fasting Glucose: 88
Fasting Insulin: 55.5
2 Hr Glucose: 143
2 Hr Insulin: 338.5

The doctors office called and said they need to bring her back for A1C, which is next week.

Is this Diabetes or Insulin Resistance?

I found a lot of information about glucose levels but can't find a lot about the insulin levels. The nurse would only say that the insulin level is VERY high.

Any insight would be helpful!!
Thanks
Dee

According to this page, she is just the tiniest bit over the threshold for "impaired glucose tolerance"

I can't comment on the insulin levels as I'm not familiar with what they mean. The A1c will tell you more about her situation and may be a better indicator than the OGTT, not sure. It's certainly one I'm more familiar with.

The glucose result indicates that her body is not processing it as efficiently as it should, and she should take action to prevent developing diabetes in the future.

I will tag @daisy1 who has some info about prediabetes and diabetes that she can post for you.

Here is some other info as well:

In most cases a person with this glucose result has IGT and possibly prediabetes, which can lead to T2. There is a small chance that she could be on the way to developing a type of diabetes other than T2, but let's wait and see what the HbA1c says.
