I'm confused why I'm getting lower BG reading post meals than the pre readings.

Last night at 10pm BG 5.2

This morning at 7.41 BG 5.4

Breakfast: 2 slices Horvis Nimble bread, tinned Tomatoes and fried egg.

9-40 post reading BG 5.0

12-08 pre lunch reading BG 5.3

Lunch: tinned pink salmon, 40g tinned Sweetcorn and lettuce.

2-10pm post Lunch reading. BG 4.7

5.10pm pre dinner reading BG 5.7

7-10pm post dinner reading BG 5.6

Dinner: Gammon, cauliflower, sprouts, sugarsnap peas.

9-45pm night reading BG 5.2

I have not ate anything in between my meals, I had a coffee and water to drink between each meal.

I expected it to be higher post meals.

Looks like you're on a low carb diet, :-) ditto...and the same often happens to me...happy days I reckon :-)

what a lovely set of numbers :)
a lot may be normal meter error and the liver naturally releasing 'sugar' between meals, it's not just what we eat.

Mine can also drop post meals. It depends on how active you are as well. I also try and eat every 3 hours, otherwise it drops too low and like Jack412 says I then end up spiking probably because my liver releases more sugar, and I have something to eat and my body can't deal with both - . (Although by spiking I still only mean 7.2). Try testing 1 hour after you've eaten and see if you hit the peak earlier than 2 hours. But well done with your control.

Thanks Donna I will try that tomorrow

When I asked a similar question someone also said you could 'peak' longer than 2 hours - it all depends how your body deals with different foods. I once tested after an hour, and then after 2 hours and after an hour they were 6.7, after 2 hours 5.7 (the start point was 5.9). But then at dinner I started at 5.3, an hour later it was 4.8, after 2 hours 5.0, and 6.0 at bedtime. I'm okay with that.

Your numbers seem quite normal, especially for low carbing. :pompous: Blood glucose levels are constantly changing depending on a lot of things - stress, physical exertion, what your liver does, how much insulin you release after eating, how well you use the insulin, etc. Also, unless you are getting almost continuous BG measurements, you can't know what the peak level after a meal was. Depending what you at and on other factors, the peak could be 1/2 an hour to 3 hours after you eat. It's not uncommon to have lower BG after meals than before since your pancreas has released insulin which pushes down the BG level, then after the insulin is used up your BG starts to go up again as the liver releases glucose. Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.
