Im 50 next month, cycle 14 miles 5 times a week and more at the weekend.
I'm 6ft tall, weigh just under 13 stone and have been for the past 20 + years.
I went to my doctor for a health check and had a finger prick blood test which gave a reading if 7.1, 2 days later I went for a full blood test and the result came back as 42. My initial telephone advice was to lose weight and exercise !
I understand the concept of prediabetes but am really confused as to what's good to eat and what's not.
I do have a sweet tooth and do eat sweet biscuits, cakes etc but not to excess.
I'm not a great fruit eater and do not have sugar in tea etc.
I was advised by the doctor not to eat fruit but to load myself with carbs. I may have been ill advised but surely loading myself with carbs is not the greatest advice is it ? I have decided to cut out all cakes, biscuits etc from my diet.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,
