Hello All : I was diagnosed with Type 2 back in June 2011. Never made a lot of difference till I got really ill in Oct 2011, I had been feeling ill for a couple of years on & off ( Pre-Diabetes ). But this time I got really ill for about 6 weeks, I had been under a lot of stress for a while with work, divorce & wedding preperations. In the time I was ill I lost 34 pounds in weight, obviously rapid weight loss set alarm bells ringing. I had all the usual blood tests, but they only thing they found was high sugar level ( Increased from 6.8 to 12.2 in 3 months ). The next 6 weeks up until Xmas I started a regime of exercise, low carb / low sugar. In that 6 weeks I started to feel a lot better, my medication at the time seemd to be working. But it was hard work, I was living of protein, having few carbs & not a lot of sugars. The longer this diet went on the worse I began to feel, headaches & tiredness. So, the doctor increased my doseage of Metformin & Glicazide. This helped again & I started to feel really good, the first three months of 2012 were the best I have felt in years. But I still could not get my blood sugar down to the levels required 4-7. I had another test & I was 8.2. The doctor was happy enough, but for me the pain I had to go through to achieve 8.2 was getting me down. Part of the issue is that I travel a lot with my job & trying to be good when your stuck in airports & hotel rooms. At home its easier as I can have the food that will control my sugar levels. So my blood sugar floats around 8-12, sometimes up to 15. When it gets high, I go back onto my type 2 diet which lowers it to a more managable level. Anyway enough story telling, I have a couple of questions for you guys.

1 : Has anyone lost weight which can be attributed to Diabetes Tyoe 2, I am not convinced that it was purely Type 2 that made me lose so much weight.
2 : If someone has lost weight attributed to Type 2, did they ever put it back on again ? I have got used to the slimline me, I had a BMI of 27. Now I have a BMI of 24.
3 : I like a cup of tea with half a spoon of sugar, maybe even a biscuit ( Twice a day ), but this drives my BS through the roof. It seems that the reaction to such a small level of sugar is not inlne with the high increase in BS when I do have a cup of tea. Does this seem a normal reaction ?
4 : I take 4x 500mg of Metformin + 240mg of Glicazide, is this a high level of medication or just a starter level ?. I understand that there is others that can go in the mix. Not ready for insulin just yet !!
5 : What would be the next level of medication ?

To be honest I have come to accept my Diabetes, its a life changer for sure. But it does not affect me in terms of depression or anything like that. I give it my best shot, but at the moment its not right. So any answers to my questions would be gratefully received.

I am off for a burger & some Chocolate Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
