Twice last week and today, I have eaten exactly the same things, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner snack - carbs less than 50, cals around 1300. The foods I have eaten are good. Nothing has changed, including exercise.

First day, my sugars were a little high for fasting and after meals. Second time, my readings were lower all round. Today, they are higher again, yet nothing has changed. Eating the day before these three days, wasn't that different and my readings for those days were fine. It's mainly in the morning, I snack on celery and cheese and a cup of mint tea before bed. I'm perplexed .....

I'm perplexed too. I think the general trend over several weeks is towards improvement though.

How are you doing, btw? Still having metformin issues? **** drug, lol.

It happens, Kim, all the time. Same meal, same everything, different results. I test a lot, including an hour after eating and again at 2 hours. Same food, identical portions, one day my peak maybe at an hour, back down at 2 hours, another day my 1 hour level is fine and my peak is at 2 hours, back down half an hour later. Nothing is constant.

There is no need to worry. Over time you will see the trends falling, but never expect the same meal to produce the same results. It is just one of the mysteries that is diabetes.

Hi CatLadyNZ

I'm not doing too bad, I have grumbling tum and some visits to the loo. I started on 3 Metformin today, one after lunch and two after dinner. We shall see thank you for asking

How are you doing?

There are other factors to always include... Stress, heat, cold, starting of illness, pain etc etc. The list is endless.. Even how many times that you could go upstairs ine morning and not the next etc... Lots of factors other than food.

CatLadyNZ, Bluetit and donnellysdogs thank you for enlightening me further

I'm doing good thanks. I have been back on my LCHF diet for 5 days and feeling great.

Sounds like the metformin side effects may be settling a little? I hope the dose increase doesn't stir things up again

It did 10 minutes ago lol

Did you come of LCHF for a bit?
Aw Hopefully you will be able to ask your doctor about metformin SR on Tuesday?

Yes I low-carbed without full fat options for about a year and lost over 8 stone. I didn't understand about full fat options at the time. My weight loss plateaud for a couple of months then I thought I would have the occasional treat, and these became more frequent, and before I knew it I had gained weight My HbA1c didn't go up though, which seems strange. So my approach now is to let myself have a treat once a fortnight so it doesn't become such a forbidden fruit that I completely lose self control. And I love the full fat options so that makes it easier to not feel deprived. When I get to 12 stone again I will consider going harder with LCHF to see if I can get past the plateau. But for now I am eating about 120g of carbs a day I think. I'm not being too full-on about it just yet, as carb flu really stirs up my chronic pain and fatigue condition.
