Confused with results

Hi,

I have just had a health assessment and my blood sugar level came back as 6.57 and that was after fasting for about 10 hours. I am a 30yr old white male and have no history of diabetes in the family, my body fat is under 12% I eat healthily and i swim 5km a week. In fact I completed a swimathon just few days before getting these results. I don't suffer from any of the listed symptoms of diabetes.

I guess I would need further tests to see if these levels are maintained, but can anyone tell me if there are other factors apart from diabetes which may explain why my blood sugar levels were high? Are some people's sugar levels naturally higher than others?!

Any advice or help would be much appreciated as I am quite concerned about this recent discovery :(

Many thanks.

Hi, Well I would be concerned. I am not medically trained so don't know what other factors may have affected your blood sugar levels, I think a visit to your gp is in order, he will probably retest you. But no some people's blood sugars are not higher than others normally.
I am older than you and was pretty surprised when I had a blood test coming back as pre diabetic, as I was slim and fit, however it did run in my family.
My figures are now normal which I achieved by low carbing.

Hi
I was 30 when I was diagnosed as fit as could be only symptom I had was a urine infection which I went to the gp about. Diagnosed there with diabetes. All the test and 6 months of misdiagnosis with t2 first of all and finally a specialist did some tests and then said t1 no history in my family. Specialist said and I think he was trying lighten the mood for me that some people are unlucky. Go to the drs and get a re test better to know than not to.
