About 4 months ago I was told I'm t1 after being treated (not successfully) for t2 for yrs I was put on new insulin and for the 1st time in yrs well since I was a teenager (I'm 36) I felt normal loads of energy, my levels were perfect i was going to the toilet regularly (no.2 sorry for tmi ) then about 4-5 wks ago I caught a cold and since then I've gone back to how I was constantly tired levels are up 15.0-17.0 also a couple 22.7 region aswell not going to the toilet for wks so my stomach is swollen Im still eating all the right foods, I was wondering if anyone else have experienced anything like me and how they got back on track x #happydiabetesday

Hi,

Happy D day to you too.

Being ill can raise blood sugar levels.. I'll tag in @noblehead he has all that sick day rules stuff..

Thank you Jaylee, just feel so deflated at the moment as I have 3 kids and I'm not spending quality time with them the cold has gone so I assumed I'd go back to how I was before..... anyway thank you again x

That's the treatment I'm on now, I couldn't remember what it was called thank you, I'm at the hospital next week so I will try to talk about doing that, thank you as I'm still new to the basal treatment i wasnt sure if that was a option. I worry as last yr I had a DKA and nearly died so I'm like obsessed with getting it and keeping it all in control x

Tried that but didn't work as far as I'm aware I don't have IBS I have a strong family history with bowel problems my sister has crohn's disease, I have been asked if I'm pregnant many times as it's a normal thing over the last 14yrs for me to go every 7-8 weeks which is very painful. I have been told about a condition linked to diabetes which I'm going to ask about at next appointment as when my levels are good I have no problem and go regularly I eat a high fibre diet aswell. I do apologise if I have gave to much info on my toilet details but I'm so baffled by diabetes some days and I always think I'm alone but slowly I'm learning that some people have the same problems x thank you for the advice Mist x

Well, the pancreas also plays a part in the digestive system also pushing out enzymes as well,as insulin... (Someone slap me if I'm wrong.)
And I read somewhere that if an "artificial pancreas" was to be effective (if invented?) the upper colon area would be the best place to put it?
The "fibre" could actually be causing carb issues with the high BS? This is all conjecture. I ain't no doc or scientist..

That sounds awful and being "backed up" like that can make you seriously ill. It releases all sorts of toxins which I assume would really screw up your BG readings.
My elderly aunt had a kink in her bowel which used to cause a blockage and she had to be admitted to hospital several times.
I'm on LCHF and can have slight constipation problems but that is easily solved with pysillium husk powder mixed in water.. and drunk QUICKLY, followed immediately by another glass of water.. It goes like wallpaper paste if you leave it too long!
That's another thought too, do you drink enough ?
