ok without going into my life story ill try to keep this brief.
I have posted on here a few weeks ago when I had a glucose tolerance test which came back with the following
baseline 6.2
2 hour after glucose 10.4
ok well phoned docs for results was told I had pre-diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance and dont worry about it, which from the information i was able to find on the internet is correct well at least about the diagnosis anyhow not the dont worry about it bit.
however had an appointment yesterday with another gp regarding my systemic lupus, and after looking at my notes my gp went on to inform me im Diabetic and that he would send me an appointment out in the post for the diabetic clinic and he also gave me tablets to lower my cholesteral which is 4.7 I though that was good  bt he said all diabetics need to be below 4.
I told him the other doctor said im not diabetic and the gp I seen yesterday insisted I am this particular gp I seen yesterday is supposed to be the diabetic specilist in my clinic he holds the diabetic clinincs my practice does not have a diabetic nurse.
I asked him is it reversible as I was told with a change in diet increased excercise and weight loss pre-diabetes can be reversed the other gp told me this.well he got quite annoyed at this point and said look your diabetic not pre-diabetic and its in your genetics you was always to get this at some point.
I am so confused now will just have to wait for this appointment at the daibetic clinic and see what happens.
sorry for this post being so long winded

Louise, I'm not surprised you are confused. Normal BG levels for a non diabetic are 4-7, have you or the GP got mixed up?
Also I thought anything below 5.0 was acceptable for cholesterol. I would hold off taking the cholesterol lowering meds until you have been to the diabetic clinic.
Also try to find out as much as you can about diabetes, before your appointment.
My GP told me I will always be classed as diabetic as I do not have the same control as a non diabetic, even if I get my BG to within normal guidelines.

NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT?

yeah good idea doc just ignore it carry on as you are doing and it will go away NOT!

get a grip on your post meal spikes and you may avoid diabetes altogether. downside is to do so you will need to test your bgs after every meal. dont know anything about the other stuff so cant comment on that.

I too have had the glucose tolererance teat and scored a 10.1 which counts as pre diabetic, ( 11.1 apparently means you are diabetic so a bit close for comfort , checked it out online too as I never believe anything the quack tells me) Was also told to stick to a healthy diet and just maybe I would not become diabetic, though you are more likely for it to happen than if u r non diabetic, so I am sticking to my lower carb diet, with the occasional misdeed  and keeping fingers crossed. Seems neither of your GPs have got it totally right, but seeing as over the past two years I have been told I am diabetic - non diabetic - diabetic, and finally pre diabetic I know how easy it is to be confused by the docs.

Hi, I am also one of the "Am I a diabetic or not type". I have decided to live like I am a diabetic and watch what I eat. Bought myself a meter and test, test, test. Know now what my body likes and what it doesn't like most of the time. No point in getting the actual diagnosis as I would not get my test strips for free anyway. I live in Canada. All a diagnosis would do for me is to skyrocket any health insurance for travelling. Low carbing and lots of exercise will put most pre diabetic and early diagnosed diabetic into a perfect region for future health exams. Put me on a cruise ship for a week or two and I can be with bg in diabetic region but I am not telling. Lost about 25 pounds since last October. Would like to lose another 20 but seem to be stuck right now. Feel really good living this way. Fitter and stronger than in the last 15 or so years. Good luck. Helga
