Yesterday i had a hypo. When the wife tested me (i was curled up in a ball and unresponsive) i had a reading of 4.8. After she gave me some glucose and came round i was at 4.9 Seems far to high for a hypo.
After checking my meter, it seems i had tested myself 1.5 hours earlier and was at 3.2. I had no memory of this. Nobody remembers me eating or drinking anything in between.
Had a Big dinner shortly after the hypo and had about half the insulin i would normally have. 14 units instead of 28 quick acting. After dinner i had the munchies and eat a bag of chilli peanuts, a large chocolate cookie, Jaffa cake bar, 2 large wholemeal rolls with butter and a large bag of peanut M and M's. 2 hours later i was only a 7.2. None of this makes sense. I have tested my meter and thats ok. Over the last few weeks i have had to almost double my quick acting insulin, and now it seems i don't need hardly any. What on earth is going on?

Hi Paul
You could be going through what is called the "Honeymoon Period", has your doctor mentioned this to you. Most type-1s go through this a few months after diagnosis-mine was around 9 months after. It's said your pancreas is churning out the last of it's insulin and this is why your need for injected insulin is reduced. I remember being on none at all for a week or so.
If you are going through your "honeymoon period" you'll need to test and adjust your insulin accordingly as your needs may vary for a while yet. Remeber it doesn't last, you will need to up your insulin when this period is over- bummer :(
Hope that helps
Jus :)
