Confused

Hi,
my name is Lorna. I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic after being told I was type 2 for about 7 years. It took me to become seriously ill before being finally diagnosed by the local hospital. I’m on a regime of nightly injections of levemir, and use novorapid before meals. Mostly I have good control until either a) we go away on holiday, or b) I’m unwell. Is this common?

Very common!
On holiday, all the routines are different so it's much harder to predict how much insulin we need.

Illness often leads to higher blood glucose, it's very normal. You can ask your diabetes nurse or endo for guidance on how to adjust your insulins when ill.
