Hi.
I'm new so hoping I'm posting in the correct place.
I'm nearly 24 and was diagnosed with diabetes in March 2006 after a miscarriage. I was diagnosed as type 2. I was put on insulin straight away and started on 2 units and built up to about 70 units twice a day. I now realise this was a lot! I had appointments with a diabetic nurse but after a while they seemed to stop. :eh:
Anyway, my diabetes was never really under control. April 2011 i had an appointment with a different nurse but didn't really get anywhere. I was over weight by quite a lot. My BMI was 34. The following day i decided it was time to change. I put myself on a healthy eating diet and cut out all ****. Crisps, white bread, sweets, biscuits etc. Went to eating 3 meals a day and maybe a healthy snack once a day.
Since April my BMI has gone down to 26.3. I've lost nearly 4 stone and my blood meter reading are good. Just after seeing the nurse in April i saw another nurse and she put me on metformin slow release. 500mg at tea time. Anyway, she referred me to a specialist who was extremely pleased with my weight loss and my meter readings for my blood. I spoke about planning a family and he said with the medication I was on was okay to take while trying to conceive. He then discharged me from his clinic. Now I'm left wondering where I am supposed to go for advice should I need it. Since being diagnosed its been hard for me to get advice and now I'm in the same situation again after being discharged. Over the Christmas period I have put a few pounds on but nothing to worry about. For the last two days I've started eating healthily again with no treats. For the last 2 days I haven't eating anything I shouldn't, or at least nothing I am aware of. My readings have been 9.1 and 8.5.
There is a chance i could be pregnant but if I am then I'm only 2 weeks. So main question is, does anyone know who i should contact and if I am pregnant, how does it affect my diabetes and would it affect it in the space of 2 weeks.
Sorry for rambling
Thanks in advance for any responce.
Jen
