Hi. Am new to all this.. Just need some answers? Been told yesterday that my brother was diagnosed with diabetes and it was an hereditary form. Have no idea what that means. Can someone help? :shock:

Hi nickcardiff,
I am sure that we will try to help with whatever we can, advice, "shoulders to cry on" etc.
"...it was an hereditary form..." all they mean is that some of the contributory factors CAN be passed from parent to child.
This form of Diabetes may or may not be passed to you from your parents and may be passed down from your brother to his offspring. this factor is not a 100% certainty of contracting diabetes and may be possible to avoid by lifestyle management.
If you or your brother have any questions, ask away someone will be sure to try to answer.
On a personal level, I was on insulin but by managing my condition, I have blood glucose levels that would not lead to being diagnosed as diabetic :thumbup:
Tell your brother good luck, and ask away!
