I had some blood tests recently due to high bp.the doctor told me that my fasting test for blood suga came back at 50 instead of 48?I've researched and 50 is below the figure for type 2.because I'm overweight I check my sugar levels on a daily basis and all are below the criteria for type 2 diagnosis. Can anyone clarify this-v worrried

I think, though obviously you'd have to check with your doctor that maybe the test you had done was an HbA1c rather than a fasting glucose.

This is a test which shows what your blood glucose levels have been like over the last 2-3 months.
This test is now allowed to be used for the diagnosis of diabetes
http://www.diabetes.org.uk/About_us/Our ... diabetes_/
The cut off point for a diagnosis is 48mmol/mol (or 6.5%) ; your result of 50 mmol/mol (6.7%) is slightly higher than this.
The DUK page does say that if that
in patients without symptoms of diabetes repeat the laboratory venous HbA1c. If the second sample is <48 mmol/mol (6.5%) treat as high diabetes risk and repeat the test in 6 months or sooner if symptoms develop

The daily tests that you take , only show your blood glucose at one time of day. If you take it in the early hours of the morning, just before a meal or an hour after you would get different results; some higher, some lower. The HbA1c is similar to an average figure so reflect the highs and the lows.
An HbA1c of 50mmol/mol shows an estimated average glucose level of 8.1 mmol/l
