Confused

Hi this is only my second post so please excuse is it is in the wrong forum. Last night my nighttime blood reading was 6.8 so I thought great that will get me through the night. Then at 2.00 am woke feeling rough went down stairs and checked my blood and it was 3.2 just where I'm I going wrong. Oh I forgot to mention I take one Metformin and 40mg Gliclazide with my evening meal. I been type 2 for 11 years now but it is starting to really get me down.

Yorkiebird, - yes, I agree that a reading of 6.8 should have brought you well through the night.

However, I looked up Gliclazide (not on meds myself) but I had a recollection that some diabetics had reported problems with controlling this particular med - and sure enough, one of the reported side effects seems to be low blood sugar. - You may wish to talk to your doctor about this.

How are your bloods during the day huni? You could consider either having Glic in the morning or split the dose am & pm. Of course consult your Dr if you do consider this.

Hi Annelise thank you for answering my query, as I type I'm waiting for my GP to ring so I will see what he suggests and perhaps there will be another pill I can take. I am aware that Gliclazide and alcohol are not recommended which is a shame as I enjoying a glass or two of wine!

Hi Smartie my bloods during the day do vary quite a bit. The 40mg tablet I take is not the kind that you can easily split in two but I am going to ask is I can take it alternative days. Thanks

Ah, Yorkiebird, I am totally with you here - I too like a glass of wine with my dinner and enjoy a nightcap. - And believe it or not, a bit of alcohol (not of the sweet kind or beer, mind you) may even contribute to lowering bg (blood glucose) numbers (from what I have read ...)

Annelise, Dr rang and I'm going to try taking the Gliclazide on a morning instead so watch this space...
