Confused! !

like I said, im confused, with the million bits of information I was given to read, all of which gave me a headache, and the internet reading I have done, I didnt really get any advice from the nurse other than, 'take these, and I will see you in 3 months to see how you are' kind of feel a little bit overwhelmed, a lot confused, and also upset at times when I cant get my head round any of the information, the nurse had also failed to tell me I would need to test my own blood, which is why I am worried about it now!

Your results are getting significantly worse. You need to count carbs and reduce them. Im not a doctor but it has worked for me. Too well in fact.

Try not to worry. It is very confusing. We were all confused like you when we were first diagnosed. The NHS gives us very little help or guidance for Type 2, and a lot of what they say is not the best advice. It is highly unlikely your nurse or GP will tell you to test. They are likely to tell you there is no need to test, but they are wrong. Testing can tell you whether a particular meal has too many carbs in it for your body to cope with. Nothing else can do this. Testing before you eat and 2 hours later will show you by how much your blood sugars have risen because of that meal. If they don't rise, then that meal is fine.

Your results are getting worse. If you do something about it you can stop any further worsening and start to improve.

Give yourself some breathing space. Take it slowly. Learn how to count carbs and show your wife how to do it if necessary. Potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, anything made with flour, some other vegetables, fruit and fruit juices, and milk are all difficult for us to manage. Keep posting on this forum, read and browse round, and try not to worry. Stress won't help matters either! We are all here to help.

That is exactly the same advice I got from my "doctor". One thing you can do right away is get print outs of your lab results, assuming they tested more than just A1c. There could be some useful information. If they only tested A1c, then you need to find a new doctor.

Hi James! It is very confusing to start with! Personally I'm with @jack412 go and look at diet doctor! He's a proper doc who specialises in diabetes and obesity. No faffing around weighing anything or carb counting. Easy. I was referred there by a forum member and it was the best thing I did.
I was diagnosed at the end of January and have lost 3.5 stone. I eat LCHF which sends one of the docs at my practice loopy. Not to mention the DN who is evil personified. My bs has come down and I am now on 1 metformin a day. My triglycerides are at 0.6 and I feel great most of the time.
I would contact the diabetes team at your local hospital- tell them about the lack of support. You may get a meter out of them and possibly some strips. Especially if you explain about your job. Tell them you want to test to see what you can and can't eat and are keeping a food diary. If that fails try your doc not diabetic nurse.
If you have to buy a meter buy directly from home health uk as postage is free and get an SD code free. If you buy the starter kit you get free lances and 10 strips. If you can, 5 packs of 50 strips (this will keep you going for 4-5 months) with discount cost £25. You buy them in bulk in 5 packs minimum.

relax, everyone has a panic at first...you've probably had this condition for years undiagnosed...it doesn't matter if it takes a month to get your head around it, or you wait till your appointment
what you will find in general is a disagreement and the opposite to medically recommended diet. the T2 diet is the current high carb low fat.

this will take time to make your own decision about diet

James try downloading my fitness pal, it will tell you every carb, sugar, protein etc. and its FREE lol I personally love it. You can input how many carbs you want to eat a day and it will let you know with eat meal you input what you have left. Hope it helps !!
