Hi everyone,
So glad I found this forum, it is lovely to meet you all.
My name is Theresa and I am 55 years young
. I live in Wiltshire, UK. I have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. I bake celebration cakes for a living and am a graphic designer.
This year has been very eventful in relation to my health (or the lack of it more so). I have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and I am already taking medications for this and it is working very well. My dilemma is this, I was rushed into hospital over the weekend with a query heart problem (which has not been diagnosed). I have a pain in the upper abdomen and chest and felt SO nauseous. My pulse was racing and the pain was unbearable. This is not the first time that I have had a chest/abdo pain over the past few weeks with nausea thrown in.
So, they sent me home as they could not find a heart problem (thank goodness). They took bloods and said that my cholesterol was very high (7.8) and they said I should get prescribed statins soonest by my own GP ASAP. Over the past few weeks I have also suffered numb toes on both feet plus fluid retention in both feet, feeling starved right after eating, dizzy spells, thirst and a boil and other horrible silk feeling skin which was weeping (only telling you that part as it may or may not be something you may relate to).
I had some bloods taken last week by my GP who was also concerned about the pains in the chest/abdo to learn if I had a heart problem and was called back into an urgent appointment with him today. He agreed that my heart was tickety-boo and then went on to tell me that besides my cholesterol being high, my liver function was poor, my gamma GT was not good, my kidneys were not good and that I have a blood glucose level of 6.8 with a HBA1c level of 49. He said he suspects that I have diabetes (did not mention whether it was 1 or 2. He wants me to go back in 2 weeks for a repeat (non fasting) blood test so he can determine which type I am. He also said that my glucose levels have been abnormal for some time (I was not aware of this).
My question is, do any of you relate to my story as I am now confused and actually concerned that they have only given me this information now.
Thank you in anticipation of your replies
Very best wishes
