Confusion between Type 1 and Type 2

Hi All,

I am a mother to a 10 year old boy.
He was diagnosed in another country with diabetes in Feb 22.
The doctors there said that it is type 1 because of his age. They never did the antibody test. His weight was also on the higher side. For 11 months my son was completely on insulin and needed very less units approx 5 units a day with an event of low sugar almost every other day. The doctors told us it is honeymoon phase and he will need more gradually.
Next, Dec 22 we travelled to our home country and the Dr did antibody test and said it's negative and he has Type2. We went off insulin completely and started Metformin from Jan 23. He was doing fine without insulin with Post meal sugar level being below 12. And no events of low sugar.
We got convinced that we are dealing with Type 2. From July 23 he is needing a little more dose of Metformin and blood levels are going up to 16 post meal. We have now moved to UK and the doctors are yet to decide if it's type 1 or type 2. To add I would mention that he never had high ketones.
Has anyone been in such situation? Is it possible that a child with type 1 be off insulin for 10 months after 21 months of being diagnosed ? Would like to know some insights.

Has anybody suggested it may be MODY, maybe try googling it yourself, this condition mainly affects blood sugars after eating, very rare & usually runs in families but not always, blood sugar 101 is a good place to start
