I've been T1 for 22 years & I think my control is pretty reasonable. My last few HbA1c's have been good (a bit on the lower end actually!). Anyway I don't drive, but am considering getting a license & am concerned about the number of hypos I have. From various things I have read I'm wondering whether a pump would be a good way of cutting these down. I tend to have at least one low most days, & I dont take much insulin, I'm on a 1:1 bolus ratio, and when I tried decreasing my basal my levels went up!

Any opinions about whether a pump might help me??

And if so, whats the best way to go about trying to get one?

Certainly a pump would help matters as you can have multiple basal rates running throughout a 24 hour period, but I'd imagine your diabetes team would want you to explore all other methods to reduce the hypo's incidents before putting you forward for pump funding.

The following lists the NICE criteria & ABCD recommendations for pump funding on the NHS:

1:1 isn't that alot?? So for example if you have 10g carbs you would inject 10units?

I would imagine the OP is referring to CP ( carbohydrate portion), 1CP is the same as 10g of carbs.
