[QUOTE="louisew2605, post: 2762346, member: 567952"] I’m a type 2 diabetic. I was diagnosed after I had covid and suddenly got very ill after my isolation finished. My hbac1 I think was 15 and I had very high ketones. I am usually very active so I think 2 weeks of inactivity drinking juice allowed to blood sugar to get dangerously high. Anyway straight onto a basal insulin, and a recommendation of 60g carbs a day. I was very fit with a healthy bmi and healthy diet, didn’t drink much or eat high carb takeaways. My dad was a slim active diabetic too. I was spiking after meals and ended up on 24 units but going too low at night, so asked to have bolus added. Took a while, but got a good regime going. But now going high in the morning and after intense exercise, so I had 1000g metformin added. And that meant I could drop my insulin, now on 6 units basal and 2 or 3 bolus for each meal and my hbac1 is down to 5.4. I’m lucky in that everything else is normal, bp, cholestrol, heart etc. Even though I tore my meniscus a year ago and was unable to do any proper exercise for around 8 months. But now getting back to my normal activity level. I do self finance a cgm, as I have tight control and can too low sometimes after exercise. I’ve kind of given up on any hope of remission. Yes of course I could lose a stone and still be a healthy BMI but I’m quite curvy and I just seem to lose muscle. And I’m pretty sure my diet didn’t cause this. My waist is also half my height measurement, so no excess fat there. My nurse did a QRISK2 on me, and I’m pretty happy with an 8.7%. I’m quite relaxed about it all now, although I have gone through lots of emotions, upset, angry, anxious but there are people far worse off than me. As for travelling, restaurants etc injecting. I just inject myself in the abdomen where I’m sitting. I don’t make a big thing of it and no one notices. I use Frio wallets when travelling to hot countries, and make sure I have extra supplies.
