Type 1 Consistently low glucose levels

For the last week my levels have been low, I have lowered my NovoRapid insulin to 10 units daily, and I am constantly having to take sports glucose gels and eat chocolate/sweets to maintain my levels above 5. Today, at 9 am, I had an appointment at the hospital and had to fast for 8 hours, no fast acting insulin since 8 pm last night. This morning my levels were low so I had a can of tango, went to the hospital and had the test, still low so I had a sports glucose gel, still low so I had a Twix 3 digestive biscuits and some Haribo sweets and my levels still haven't gone over 6, has anyone else had this problem of consistently low glucose levels?

Welcome to the forums, I think my first "worry"/question is what are you classifying as 'low'. If you're above 3.9 and staying there then I wouldn't be too overly worried but if you're dropping below that consistently then it's time to see what has changed recently that could be causing this.

Hi @Philip Havelock , welcome to the forum.

You say you've adjusted your NovoRapid, but our basal needs can change as well.
So if you're taking more of your Toujeo than you need you'll keep going low.

Do you have an endo or diabetes nurse you can contact to have a talk on how to adjust your doses?

I am T1, now for 54 years. I have been on a pump now for around 7 years. I also have experienced a big drop in insulin need, and had to make big reductions in the pump supply, and reduce bolus amounts. This situation lasted for around 3 .months. I am now finding my blood sugar increasing, so I will increase my night basal. That is my least favorite one to raise - obvious reasons. I suspect the reason for lowering of insulin is perhaps due to my pancreas producing more insulin. But, this has happened before, again having to reduce basal levels. That was about 3-4 years ago. I am overall using less insulin than I was before these lowering changes occurred. I have to monitor my BS level more regularly.
