Hey guys,

I have been having constant high mornings sugars. Im a Diabetic 1 with Novorapid short lasting insulin and Lantus as long lasting insulin. I usually take 35 units Lantus

Im on a low carb diet and i regularly exercise, do yoga and meditate. But these swings in my blood sugars have left me tired and anxious. It seems that the sugars starts rising late evenings and i can wake up in the middle of the night due to high sugars. This has caused sleeping issues for me.

Here are some of my readings from some random days:

7 SEPTEMBER:

TIME: 07.30 Blood sugar: 18 (no breakfast) Insulin dosage units: Lantus 34. Novorapid 13

TIME 10.00 Blood sugar: 10.00

TIME: 12.00 Blood sugar 9,6 Insulin dosage units : 6 novorapid FOOD: low carb chicken salad

TIME 16.00 blood sugar 10.00

TIME 18.00 blood sugar 7,5 insulin dosage units: 6 Novorapid FOOD: 2 chicken breasts and sallad

TIME 19.00 blood sugar: 8,6

TIME 21.00 blood sugar 6,4

BED TIME 23.00 blood sugar 9,5

8 SEPTEMBER:

i wake up earlier due to high blood sugar.

Morning sugar is 16,9 at 07.00 INSULIN DOSAGE: 13 Novorapid 34 Lantus NO BREAKFAST

TIME 10.00 blood sugar: 8,8

TIME 12.00 blood sugar: 7,6 INSULIN DOSAGE: Novorapid 5 FOOD: egg and fish sallad

TIME 14.00 blood sugar: 6,1

TIME 16.00 blood sugar 5,3 FOOD: 1 Banana

TIME 19.00 blood sugar 4,8 FOOD: 1 sandwich ( NO INSULIN)

TIME 21.30 blood sugar 5,5 INSULIN: 5 Novorapid which i did not take 19.00

TIME 22.30 blood sugar 3,4 FOOD: 1 banana + 1 slice black bread (NO INSULIN)

The thing is that my even if my evening sugars sometimes are around 6 - 9 i wake up with 15 in blood sugars in morning. All day can be under 10 but then mornings are high. I have got feelings of anxiety due to my swings and it has been going on for a while now.

Im feeling unmotivated to do things in life. No interest. Im tired and less concentrated. Should i try the new long lasting insulin Tresiba?

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to get my morning sugars in control?

Have a chat with your DSN about split-dosing your basal insulin, it looks like it's running out given your high morning readings, failing that see if you can change to the new basal insulin called Tresiba.
