Hi All

I am trying to follow a low GI diet - but its not working well. Im having constant slip ups with food, and this is happening everyday, a few biscuits some days, toast other days, handfull of chips, crackers....i read the posts on here and it seems that most people are really good - everyday!

breakie is always jumbo oats, seeds, nuts, and reduced sugar yoghurt, and milk
snack is apple or kiwifruit, a few plain nuts
lunch is salad with 2 burgen , or an 2 egg omlette with 2 slices of burgen
and this is where is fall apart! the afternoons....i want to eat anything but a healthy snack and i tell myself i will damage my body if i eat biscuits etc, but i still do it!
dinner (im good with) meat (not processed) with vege and small potato.

Am i alone in this? or do you guys slip up as well everyday??

I think that you will find that many of us are addicted to foods that we have known and have found comfort in for many decades. As with giving up smoking or alcohol, the craving can be very debilitating. Some people can go "cold turkey" while others work on gradual reduction. You probably will have to work out what works (or doesn't) for you. I find if I allow myself something I have decided to eliminate from my living plan, the more I crave it later. Keep plugging at it and with huge commitment you will get there.

Angela, I'm still trying to get over Christmas. I was doing brilliantly up until Christmas, then I started to fall off the wagon, which I expected, and wasnt overly concerned about, as I knew I would get back on track in the New Year. We still have lots of goodies left over and I would snack every now and again, especially between lunch and dinner when my BG levels are usually at their lowest. But these snacks are getting less and less, and I'm starting to back to snacking on Cheese and Almonds or slices of cooked meat like ham etc. I'ts hard, but I find if I go cold turkey, and deprieve myself of something it just makes my cravings worse, so if I do snack on bad things it is only a smal amount. Like just a few crisps, or 1 piece of chocolate. Keep the head up , youll get there

Sorry to hear you're struggling Angela,

Maybe you could try making your own 'treats'. I couldn't survive without an afternoon and evening treat, but I've had to try certain things out as an alternative to the cakes and choccies I used to love.

Mid afternoon I'll have a soya milk cappaccino with homemade choc chip cookies (only 1 carb per biccie!), or I'll have a Mini Milk icecream lolly which tastes lovely and creamy, but is only 5g of carbs.

Occasionally as a real treat, I'll make a sponge cake with almond flour or a cheesecake with low fat cream cheese and dark choc.

If you're more of a savoury person, you could try cheese with a couple of small crackers (cheddars only have 1.9 carbs), or veg sticks and cream cheese maybe, nuts, cold meat slices?

It's just having a look about and finding something that you still consider a treat, but that is actually not that bad for your bg.

Hope this helps a bit
