Constipation help

Amanda61. Hi, only wondered about medication because Metformin either causes Constipation OR Diarrhoea - it causes the first with me as I take 4 a day (each tablet being 500mg). In fact a lot of tablets I am does the very same. I get 2 different types of Laxatives on prescription - but don't take them unless I really need too. Liam
 
4 Metformin I have heard that Metformin causes stomach upset.
I must check my other meds, to see whether those cause constipation.
 
Hello @liam1955 . I have experimented this evening with a chia seed dessert and some chia seed rolls. I'll let you know if they work.
 
Hi mo53. I like the sound of chai seed dessert - what's the ingredients?
 
1/4 cup half and half (or any other creamy liquid, like unsweetened coconut, or almond milk)
1/2 cup water
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
3 Tbsp sweetener (I used granulated Spenda)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 Tbsp chia seeds

Add all ingredients to a jar and cover jar with lid. Shake ingredients until mixed well. Let sit for 10 minutes or so, and shake again. Let sit in the refrigerator for an hour or so, or until chia has gotten thick. Serve...and enjoy!

I found it online. I didn't add as much sweetener as that and it was still too sweet for me. It was very cinamony so I think I will add cocoa next time.

Hi Amanda61 and Mo63.
Today bought a 425g bag of dried pitted dates and a 250g bag of dried ready to eat figs - so tonight I am going to eat 6 of the dates to "experiment"!!! = Taking Ferrous Fumarate (iron tablets) everyday is not good for the bowels!! I just had my bloods done last week so I cut down the iron tablets to 1 a day (not 2) on Saturday. Insulin don't cause constipation??? Anybody know???
 
Good luck with the experiment @liam1955 . I'm sorry I don't know about insulin. I enjoyed the chia seed dessert but it seems slow working.

Figs & Dates you are bound to go with eating both of those.
I bought some prunes in a tin. I'll have to rinse them to get the
syrup stuff off them. Not particulars keen on either 3 to be honest.
But needs must I suppose. Good luck with your dates.

My doctor has put me on Fybogel, one a day at the moment.
I caught a tummy bug before Xmas, and went for the Imodium
which apparently was the worst thing I did. I should of let the bug
out of my system for the first 8 hrs then reached for the Imodium.
Oh well, you live and learn I suppose. I even ate prunes last week &
I hate those
 
Oh dear. But you are feeling better now? And I went out and bought 2 tins of Prunes, - 1 tin (drained off juice) and ate with "sugar free" custard and it was yummy. And the next day? = well, need I say more!!!

The custard would be yummy ... But those prunes ... I keep having nightmares about them.

I normally have to take about 10 ducolax tbs and 100ml of lactolose every 4 days to go...not a very happy existence
 
@DarrenCafferty - What medication are you taking? Because a lot of tablets can cause constipation, also what age group are you in?
