consultant reveiw today
After some back and for with docs (too many) and erratic levels with big highs and lows had an excellent consultation toady. Managed to see main consultant, rather than the junior. Because my levels are quite eratic and big drops spontaniously my doc had blood tests done immediately to rule out various other immune disorders. From what i can remember these include thyroid function (more detailed than the standard ones i had at the surgery), celiac disease, addisons disease and also something to do with muscles. On top of this i will have an appoitment to the day hospital for them to do a biopsy of my stomach which he said i will have very shortly and run various blood tests throughout the day as my levels fluctuate so much.
Also i was told i am definately type one as i had plenty of the gad antibodies when i was diagnosed, and very high ketone levels. )didnt even know i had this test as when i asked the junior consultant some months ago for this test he said no, but didnt tell me i already had it). He did seem to think something will be picked up as he suspects some sort of malabsorbtion disorder.
Of course he did end with al these may be negative and i might just be having a very long honeymoon period- coming up 9 months, but wants to rule out all other possibilities instead of possibly continuing with another problem, which is all i wanted.
Overall he went throgh all of my short history and i left with no unanswered questions as once i gave him my readings he explained his thoughts in terms i could understand. re visit to discuss all tests and reults in 6 weeks.

Hi Brett!

Sounds like they could be testing to rule out Crohns disease as well if they are taking a gastro biopsy as malabsorbtion is a complication of this disease-I have crohns, which is Autoimmune like type 1 and there appears to be a link.I was initially diagnosed type 2 but saw the consultant after my BG's more than doubled with Oral treatment and carb restriction-He was convinced it was an autoimmune form of diabetes based on my other autoimmune conditions and subsequent GAD antibody and C-Pep test results confirmed his suspicions.I also have psoriasis too-is that something you have ever suffered with?

havnt looked into crohns but does remind me years ago i am sure my aunty had mentioned she had this-didnt pay attention at the time but will google it. As for psoriasis i have never personally had it but my mother who sadly passed due to cancer some years ago had her legs covered in it from her 20;s to the point she would always be covered up on her legs unless in the house. Thats as far as it goes for any auto immune diseases in the family me being the firs to be diabetic. May be related to my mum with her psoriasis :!:
