My lovely DN gave me a Contour TS meter and 50 strips. Being a pretty new diabetic I have been getting a bit obsessive about testing. I know I need to cut down a bit now. I tried to register on line with the makers, Bayer, but no matter how many times I tried the site did not send me an activation e mail.
I phoned up today and a lady took all my details, registered the meter and said she will get their technical team to look into it. I asked her if I could buy some more test strips and much to my surprise, she said no! She said they are only available on prescription. What? I googled them and they can be bought on line, but they are much more expensive than the ones I have already bought for the Tee2 meter which I got before I saw the DN.
I was hoping just to use one meter, but the only way round this which I can see at the moment is to use the Contour until the strips run out, then use the Tee2 until I can get some more strips for the other one.
This is madness!

I have a contour xt and next usb and the next one meters and I get the test strips free on prescription from the gp but that might be because I am on insulin and get a exception cetificate to do that but if you were able to get one you could get the test strips free on prescription from your gp and then you can still use your new meter but all you need to do is ask your doctor if you can get the test strips on prescription and then you will be given a answer straight away as I was told that they will be ready the next day when I ordered mine the first time and now I do it over the Internet without going through the receptionist to order anything

I have the exemption certificate but my Dr seems to think that 50 tests should last me a month (50 strips / 2 tests a day = 25 days?) I have been testing more often than this anyway. I suppose I could just ask for more and see if it gets rejected.

I test 4 times a day which is just before each meal and it takes me a few weeks to get through 50 test strips and I get 100 at time when I ask for them as when I was diagnosed and I was put back on to insulin I was told to test before a meal only and when I was on a tablet and insulin it was after a meal so I take longer to use 50 test strips than what the doctor can say you can test and save your time doing in the long run as you will be told that by your dsn when you see them or on your next appointment with the diabetes team
