Contraceptive pill

One for the ladies
I’m starting the contraceptive pill in an attempt to control endometriosis pain. I’ve never been on the pill before and I’m 42. Doctor says risk of clots is higher for diabetics but not so great as to stop me trialing them. I’m a bit nervous though. Any side effects I should be aware of ? How have others tolerated them and do they effect blood sugar control ?

I’m so sorry you have this condition, it can be so painful. I was never able to tolerate the pill. I tried a few times over the years and they always made my blood sugars go crazy ... over 30!!!! I got migraines and extremely painful swollen legs amongst other things.
This is just my experience so you may have better luck. I also had endometriosis and was told to take the pill to help, but I was lucky enough to be able to fall pregnant and when I had my check up a year of his birth my endometriosis has gone. The consultant had told me that a way to get rid of it was to fall pregnant or to take the pill, even though getting pregnant can be extremely difficult for those with endometriosis.
I wish you luck, but I think if you decide to take it you should talk to your diabetic consultant first, so you know how it could affect your blood sugar levels and how best to fix them with higher basal rates etc.

Thanks for your reply . I did ring my endocrinologist first - more for the risk of clot side of things. He said risk for diabetics slightly higher but still worth trying. I had my first tablet last night and it made me feel ‘weird’ and agitated. And my sugars dropped. Don’t want to give up too soon but not the best start.
