Iv had diabites for 6 years now and just wondering.is it actually possible to never have a high blood sugar like we're only human right so say if I had a high blood sugar every day of around 10 to 14 but for.the rest of the day my sugars were between 5 and 8 and I took extra insluin to.combat the high would this cause any long term damage?

Hi Ryan,
My personal opinion is that 1 high a day probably would lead to damage eventually, albeit at a slower rate than constant highs. If you are going high every day, and at the same time, it might be worth keeping a food/insulin/blood sugar diary. That way you can work out what you need to change to eliminate the highs.

Thanks for that how do diabetics keep there blood so in check because I'm.skinny hardly eat anything and I'm.still going 10 to. 12 throughout the day I asked my diabetic nurse and she said with a hba1c of 4.5 I was hitting it pretty good and shouldn't worry?

Hey Ryan .
I'm not very good with advice but just wanted to say wow , that is a very low hba1c . Sounds like your doing very well :)
Do you still have hypo awareness with your hba1c .

It's hard because I think a lot of us will get the occasionally high , i guess we wouldn't be diabetic if we didn't :p .

Take care
:):):)

Are you on basal bolus 2 kinds of insulin or on a single combined insulin?

You can have bad control and have a good A1c if your BG swings very high and very low
The A1c is an average eg 2-12 could be a1c 5 and 4-6 average A1c 5 too
Same A1c but good and bad control

My guess is it depends how long you are over 8 for whether it needs a correction dose
