9.2 this morning - after a really bad day yesterday as I had a vomitting bug... so ate nothing at all and wondered if this has made a difference. It's usually between 7.00 and 8.00 - and I'm looking for ways to bring this down lower.

Hi @Tirianne. Any kind of infection, viral or bacterial, when you're diabetic, puts added stress upon your body. Put simply, the body has to work hard to put itself right & achieve homeostasis. The liver releases stored glucose to give the body the necessary energy it requires to recover. Unfortunately, as diabetics, this reaction raises our blood glucose. This is made worse when you're vomitting, as you risk becoming dehydrated, which also increases your blood glucose. Aaarrgh!! Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 100mls EVERY HOUR you're awake. Aim for 1500 to 2000mls daily. More if you can tolerate it. Even sipping 10-20 mls at a time will help you reach your target of 100mls an hour. Suck ice chips if that helps. If you can manage a piece of toast, some clear soup or a few plain biscuits (rich tea or ginger nuts are good,) then it will help give your body some fuel to fight the bugs. Here's a link to the forums sick day rule plan. Hope you find it useful. Get well soon hun. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/blog/2011/01/sick-day-rules-a-how-not-to-guide/ AJ. X
