Hello my question is:
If I do get coronavirus, mild or bad. Should I be teaching my husband how to administer my insulin if I am too poorly, or should I not be having insulin if im not eating and with high emp. I know its a lot of if,s but like to be organised (if that's possible) and try to have all bases covered

Hi,

Welcome to the forum..

Hmmm, for the last 43 years, the only person I trust with my insulin is me..
Don't think this hasn't occurred to me regarding my wife.
But then we have both been seriously ill abroad on one occasion, & I still managed to hold it together & sort help for us both.

However.
If you are to teach your husband to inject. You may wish to clue him up regarding BG monitoring too..
Certainly if sharing an abode with a case of corona you would all be locked down.?

Regarding loss of appetite should you be ill. What insulin/s are you prescribed.?

A long acting insulin will cover background fasting levels.
A short acting insulin can correct high BGs as well as accounting for the carbs consumed.

Best wishes.

Well I think it is always a good idea to educate your other half on your diabetes and to make sure they have a thorough understanding of it, including how you inject your insulin, what it is used for and the mechanics behind it. At least that way, if you were too ill to do it yourself (which would probably mean you were very ill and needed the advice/monitoring by your Dr/diabetes team anyway), then he would be able to understand what they were saying and how best to help you during any illness. On the other hand if he is suddenly plunged into such a nightmare he won't have a clue. Obviously you would need to take medical advice but you are always supposed to take your long acting insulin regardless of whether you are eating. x
