When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
Had a lovely salad in Pizza Express, along with lots of water. Decided to go to Costa Coffee for a drink. Knowing that I had a long 50 minute walk to son's house I thought I would have a treat of a Mocha. I picked a Mocha Cortado and was told the coffee gave a good kick. Never had it before so had no idea of the effect..... I drank it quickly and then the effect of the caffeine started (probably the sweet mocha too as had nothing really sweet for weeks). I was feeling like I was drunk! Tested levels and a 10.1 After walk home down to best level yet 6.0

Sadly I find most drinks at Costs are now off limits! Well actually, I don't mind - and am saving lots of money

Well done on the 6.0

Yes I know the feeling of fluctuating BS and feeling drunk. Eyes blurry and wobbly. Then add the caffeine and it feels awful. Geez I miss my mochas. Oh well, life goes on....

Luckily there isn't one in Orkney where I live, so no temptation!

I have the odd latte or an espresso but you have to know what they are going to do to you and take it into account thing is I don't think Costa's would appreciate us sitting there having a coffee then testing and shouting Oh My God!!! look at that.

I am very happy with a Costa Coffee double espresso macchiato, plus a glass of water. The tablespoon of milk is negligible, as I don't drink this more often than, oh, fortnightly (take my coffee black at home/work).

It's the mocha aspect - they probably add hot chocolate powder or chocolate syrup, and we know those are mostly sugar. Adding cocoa powder and some xylitol or stevia to your coffee at home, plus some double cream, would make a much tastier, yet less BG-stressing drink.

I drink black coffee - mainly espresso - I do have an ordinary cortardo if I am out and about and feeling low if I test and I am around 4ish - the small amount of milk stops the drop and keeps me level until it's time to eat. I don't take milk as a rule as I don't really like it but don't mind a cortardo when low - like my body liking it because I need it?

Last Summer - I drank a fancy coffee everyday whilst I was on holiday. Last October I got diagnosed with T2. I don't eat or drink anything you can buy on the High Street these days - apart from bottled water.. Lessons learned but at least you know what it takes in exercise to work it off.

Coffee from a cafe is the one thing I do miss. Here where I live we only get the regular coffee, no fancy Costa, Starbucks etc. I bought a bottle of water from a tiny shop in the middle of nowhere on the way home by bus yesterday. I looked at the label and it had added something or others (threw it away when finished, meant to look up what they were). I know calcium was one. I like my water as just water. Well with a touch of sliced lemon and lime.
