could anyone advise please

Hi all

I went to see my Diabetic Consultant today and he advised me to change my 1 to 1 ratio (1 unit of insulin to 10g carbs)
to 0.8 units of insulin to 10g carbs, but i felt silly asking how do i work that one out? Could someone please explain how do i work out 0.8 to 1 ratio (simplist terms if possible)

Simplet way would be to use a small calculator... but for simple things like eating 30g carb for instance would be 30g divided by 10 = 3 x 8 = 2.40u.

The bit you're most interested in is on about page 26 of it
1. Work out how much carbohydrate is in your meal or snack.
2. Divide the weight of carbohydrate in your meal or snack by the weight of carbohydrate in your
ICR and multiply this by the units of insulin in your ICR.

ICR is your carb ratio ... and the formula is the same as what iHs has said above :thumbup:

Count up the number of 10g carb portions and multiply by 0.8 (that is, inject 4u for every 5 carb portions)? Or multiply the number of carbs as listed on the label by 0.08 if you are using a calculator.

Or, if you want to think about it another way, 0.8u:10g ratio means you are taking 0.8u / 10g = (1.25*0.8u) / (1.25*10g)=1u / 12.5g... that is to say, count up the number of 12g carb portions and inject 1u for each.
 
Hi

Whether you want to use 0.8u for 10g carb or do 1.0u for 12g carb, do get yourself an insulin pen that delivers in 0.5u increments and then round up the insulin to the nearest half unit

30g carb using 0.8u for 10g carb equals 2.4u
30g carb using 1.0u for 12g carb equals 2.6u

So using half unit pen deliver 2.5u :thumbup:
 
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ADVISE , I NOW KNOW WHAT TO DO, LUCKILY I HAVE A 0.5 UNIT INSULIN PEN SO IT WILL MAKE THINGS A LOT EASIER.
