hi guys ,
i'm not sure which part to post this question in so im sorry if it should be in another thread :?
but my question is why do insulin vials come in foil pouches? i know they're supposed to stay sterile, but the insulin is already in a sterile vial.
i am looking at ways to reduce packaging waste and i'm trying to figure out if all the foil is necessary?

Not sure but i think its to help protect the vials from light. Some drugs breakdown due to ultraviolet light etc so it may be the case with insulin as well.

It could be light, but I suspect foil keeps the temperature stable too. Like a spsce blanket

I have a answer for you, my mum asked her diabettic nurse she see's, insulin comes in foil wrap!
to protect it from bright light as it is sensitive, and to be able to keep it a correct temperature!

That is okay when in doubt i ask my mum! she uses insulin.
