Could this be neuropathy?

I was diagnosed with type 1 about 3 months ago, aged 25. Nothing has been very well explained, and I'm confused over whether I could have signs of neuropathy already. When diagnosed, people just kept asking a million questions including 'do you have a loss of feeling in your feet' so I just said no to everything as thought they meant not feel them at all. But I have done a lot of reading since!

For about the last 3 years, during the night and for up to 2 hours once I've woken my feet feel very achy, like when you've been on your feet all day the previous day. They also feel tingly, and sometimes I have pins and needles in the tops of my feet. My ankles also ache. My hands ache and feel numb, as though they are swollen and I don't feel that I have much strength in them. I just ignore it until it wears off, it's just an irritation more than anything.

Since it has been diagnosed however I feel as though it has got worse and is more noticeable now, though maybe it's just because I am aware it could be something? I always assumed previously that everyone felt like that in the morning but just didn't ever mention it.

Is this likely to be the beginnings of neuropathy? Or maybe just bad circulation or something? Or is it just normal? I don't want to waste my time going to the doctors just for them to think I am making a fuss about nothing...

It could be, but it may be something else. Is your diabetes under control?
I would say definitely go to the doctor even if it's just to put you mind at ease.

Ask to see the podiatrist at your diabetic clinic. They can test you for neuropathy.

Difficult to say what the problem is Charley although I doubt its Neuropathy after only a few months, best that you pop along and see your gp or consultant and get a proper diagnosis, none of us all qualified to say what the problem is and if we were we couldn't do so without an examination.

Do get it checked out as soon you can, and btw your not wasting their time as that is what they are paid to do.

Just to add; Personally I would ask to see the podiatrist over the GP due to my own experiances. My GP brushed aside any problems I had with my feet (not bothering to look or test) and said it wasn't neuropathy, a few weeks later nerve conduction tests confirmed it WAS.
