Hi all, I'm a final year Industrial Design BA student at university and am currently doing my main project in Diabetes treatment equipment. I'm also a part-time carer and have been for around 5 years for my grandparents who both live with Type 1. In addition to that, the majority of my family and relatives all have either Type 1 or 2 and they've all given so much advice, but I could really do with more to help me move forward with the project.
I've been delving into the subject of older adults, living either independently or dependently on others, self-managing their diabetes while having or developing various sensory and physical complications (vision, strength, dexterity, cognition, chronic conditions...etc). The aim is to basically see how adaptive and inclusive medical equipment actually is, understand the daily complications and possible solutions people may have found to overcome any difficulties they have faced. In particular, I have been looking at blood glucose monitors and insulin delivery systems and I'm currently just in the research phase, but will be needing to make some real life prototypes very soon! So it would be really helpful to know your experiences or opinions on the subject matter.
