Counting carbs

Both.

But the best starting point is to look at the nutrition labels and if Carbs per 100g is 10 or less, it will be a good choice.

Hello @lindiloo62 I log my food in my fitness pal website food diary. I've set my targets as 1200 calories and 60g of carbs. It helps me keep on track.

If it comes in packaging I look at carbohydrate content and try to stay below 5g in 100g with some exceptions like peanuts.

Yes, count the carbs. Whatever you do, don't guess until you know exactly what you are doing. It is so easy to get things wrong. It is often best to weigh all food with carbs in and calculate the number of grams there are until you get used to portion sizes.
