Because of the carbs in milk do you use an alternative?

When choosing the alternative do you think about anything else other than the carb content? With the negative effects of soy on testosterone levels in men and the possible negative effects on thyroid function I stear clear of all soy containing products. I saw in another thread that someone was using Almond milk.... need to get hold of some of this! Apparently you can make great low carb bread with it!

I have started on soya milk today, and will now stay on it. I drink quite a bit of tea a day and regular milk was just pushing my daily carbs higher than I felt comfortable with. I am hyper aware of the dangers of too many carbs and yes, that is my only concern.

Is there a reason you have gone for soy instead of lactofree/rice/oat/almond milk?

"Although safety testing of natural products, including soy products, is not required, the possibility that widely consumed soy products may cause harm in the human population via either or both estrogenic and goitrogenic activities is of concern." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12060828

Goitrogenic means its ability to suppress the function of the thyroid gland.

I chose soya milk because I live out in the sticks, and it is something I can get hold of reasonably easily. My own view is if we listen to all the 'experts' there would be nothing we could eat or drink. There is a scientist somewhere who can find a problem in everything we consume. For me, it's all about carbs as a priority, and then what I can get hold of, and also what is palatable. Soya milk fits the bill on all counts.

I avoid soya as much as possible as my thyroid is under active. No need to give it an excuse to be even lazier. I bought Lactose free today to give that a blast.

I chose Almond milk because I already have enough trouble with my hormones to be honest. Soy could have added to those so Almond milk is the safe alternative in my case.
