hi., i would like some advice if having crackers with philidelphia cheese spread is a good thing or a bad thing?
i have type 1 diabetes & i'm trying to find something suitable as a snack etc.,

also would love ideas for other things to try., e.g. porridge etc.,

I can.normally get away with a 10~15 carb snack between meals without a bolus, depending on the cracker normally 5~6 carbs each so a good snack.

Ritz crackers are 2.5g per cracker I've recently discovered. Few of them with Philadelphia is fine for me!

Looks good to me but you might have to inject some QA insulin if your on basal/bolus. Nairns do some excellent oat crackers and I eat them if my bg is running in the low 4's, the cheese ones are under 4g of carbs per cracker and they are delicious.

Porridge wouldn't be good as a snack as it's too high in carbs and you'd definitely need to inject, great as a main meal though and I have a bowl full every morning, I make mine with a mixture of water and milk and add seeds (linseeds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds) to the pan as the porridge is simmering, once in the bowl I add a spoonful of Onken yoghurt and a handful of blueberries, it's very filling and keeps me full until lunch.

Thanks for the comments I think id be better off with porridge for breakfast then instead of a snack? Also ive had a few jacobs crackers with philidelphia on but have noticed theres more than one sort of cracker jacobs make so im gonna have a look in more detail when I go shopping again & see if I can find some which are lower in carbs, im also new to this forum so still getting the hang of things

Yes porridge for breakfast is fab. I have raisins and chopped nuts in mine :)

According to the pack the crackers are about 4 carbs per cracker if I reading it properly

I think 4-5g of carbs is the average for that type of cracker.

Try the Nairns Cheese Oat Crackers you'll not be disappointed.

Think a little experimenting with things to add to porridge tomorrow :-) I like rasins too but wonder if some chopped up cherries would go well with porridge? Also does it make much difference what kind of porridge oats I use.,

Whatever you do don't buy the instant oats like Ready Brek (they'll spike your bg badly). Try and buy oats that are rough-cut and haven't been rolled to death, I'm using Tesco's Finest at the moment but do buy the Scotts Porridge Oats too, the fats in the seeds (and the yoghurt) helps slow down the digestion of the porridge oats but also give it a nice nutty flavour.

I look forward to my porridge as soon as I get up, I even think about it the night before:D
