Ok....Hi All.
New to this diagnosed 10 days ago, T2 put straight on meds, must admit quick response, appointment next day with diabetes nurse. Work as a live in care for a client with dementia 2 week shifts, so back to work 2 days after diagnosis.

Still in shock, I have had crohns disease for 30 years and have been off Meds for years, if I don't know what i can't tolerate by now I never will, diagnosed with gout 3 years ago, medicated and under control. now diabetes, how do I manage a diet for that with the other diet controlled things, can't tolerate fat or much meat or dairy (grilled cheese)
so I eat..................... pasta, rice, jacket potatoes.

have another appointment with diabetes nurse day after I finish work 10th September. had to ring 111 couple of nights ago.sweating feeling sick shaking, headache felt really ill, told it sounded like a hypo and had to eat, I thought you didn't have hypo's with type 2 none insulin.

Going to ask for a blood monitoring unit, I need help to understand what food does to me.

I am confused at all the differing info I am reading, and hope this site can help guide me on the right path.

ok I've rambled enough now, I look forward to hearing from you all.

xxxx

Hello Smyler. Oh dear it sounds like you are going through a rough patch. Im sure you will find lts of help here. :)

Hello and welcome!

Sounds like you already have a lot on your plate.

What meds did they give you? And was it with an understanding of your Crohns?
There's a very common diabetes medication called Metformin that has been known to give people an upset tum. It is usually the first tablet we get given.

I would hate for it to trigger your Crohns.

Thanks for your reply I was given Metformin, been taking it for a week now and so far so good. Just don't know what to eat if I have to cut the carbs.

It's a tricky one.
I'm afraid I probably won't be much use to you on diet - I eat low carb.

Do you go for the pasta/rice/potato options because they are low in fibre?
How are you with veg?

I shared a house with a girl with Crohns for a while. I remember her diet was high in white carbs, but she was fine with fat and meat. She lived on steak and chips, as I recall. Onion and garlic were terrible for her.

I hope someone comes along with some better suggestions...

Not sure if I'm replying to this right, I eat pasta, wild rice wholemeal bread and jacket potates, loads of fruit , salad and any vegetables, don't like chocolate or sugar, have the odd digestive biscuit, don't really like meat and fried food upsets my stomach neat milk or in drinms makes me sick, not that I'm complecated.
