Why isnt anybody telling us the existing cure for diabetes which is being done in private hospials in this country and other countries already ?
What is the point of all the drugs when there is a simple stem cell operation on the pancreas which cures it back to its full function ?
all this pointless toing and froing and discussion ...the cure is here and now .. please discuss that and why we are not offered it ...
 
Really - tell me more.. I had never heard of that?

Jeesh, that's so unfair...I betcha none of these mice have paid any tax or NI and they still get bumped up the cure queue before we do. I'm going to have to write to the Daily Mail in green ink about this...
 
Not a cure then just a break from insulin injections?
I bet many would like that chance too.
 
@threedogs It is an interesting development but i don't think it is fully developed yet and success with humans has been limited, where did you get your information from, i would be interested to read more about further progress and success stories.

Good question. I couldn't help having a Google. You might find this interesting although I haven't found the cost or success rates. They claim to use stem cell therapy for type I & II. Might be worth a read just as a FYI.

There are a number of centres offering 'cures' with stem cells. There's zero proof they work but they do empty your wallet successfully...
 
So no cure as yet then.
It shouldnt be long now they know how type1 especially is caused.

Perserver. It shouldnt be long.
I'd like type1s cured first, even though I'm a type2.
It can cause so much more quick hypers and hypos compared to the majority of type2s.

Type2s could do with better nutrition guidance and support. Low carb is definitely the key.
Even after a cure.

It is interesting that none of the reference emails on the site said "my x was cured here". They all talk about it being a lovely place, treated well - kind and family like. Oh well, the search for the pot of gold continues...

They also intend on opening a branch in the USA this November. However they wanted site users to vote on one of 3 locations!

Some sort of "Ghost busters" set up in a disused NYC fire station...?
 
I have no problems with the link being removed, my inclusion wasn't meant to be a recommendation.

Stem cell research has being going on for many years now and there is evidence of success in several areas. There are many clinical trials going on now representing a huge investment, so maybe we should just be aware that stem cell therapy could one day become a viable proposition.

I had no knowledge of the company mentioned until I googled the company, certain individuals have written very negative reviews, without actually having any experience of the procedures but then several people have written good reviews. As a generalised question how do you tell what the truth is? Money back guarantee if it doesn't work?

Lets not forget that Bone Marrow/Stem Cell transplants are now so successful (although not 100%) that searches for a match is European wide, at the moment. My neighbour's daughter who had leukemia received her bone marrow from a man in Germany.

I'll stay on the fence for the time being.
 
The most recent T1 'cure' I remember (that may well be one the OP has referenced) was a country mile shy of even being interesting, even though it was on mice.

The mice were put into a hyperglycemic state, they DID NOT have the autoimmune response that makes us T1's the way we are. For the media to then start shouting about a monumental step forward for a T1D cure was just a total joke. The immune system response is the biggest stumbling block, the study didn't even factor that in.

I now switch off to all news about cures, because I believe there's a heavy element of 'clever wording' in the studies/reports - to allow those involved to attract potential funding and/or investments. Money comes first in almost every agenda I'm afraid. Call me cynical but that's how I see it.

Until my diabetologist offers me a cure, I'll hud chappin' with my Novorapid/Levemir
 

I'm not recommending anything, just to give you an idea of the amount of research at the clinical trial stage and I'll define clinical trial first:

Clinical trials are research studies that explore whether a medical strategy, treatment, or device is safe and effective for humans.

Just a few of the areas where clinical trials using stem cells are currently going on:

Cardiac repair
Crohn's disease
Injury and disease of the eye
Parkinsons
spinal cord injury
Stroke
rheumatoid & osteo arthritis
immune disorders
hemorhhagic cystitis

Probably more importantly, at ViaCyte (CA, USA), type I diabetes mellitus.

I'm more open minded than ever, but not so open my brains falling out.

I got memories of reading about "stem cell" stuff back in the late 80s early 90s? Could have been in the new scientist..?
This is before any tinternet. Long story short. I tracked down this "lab" & made a couple of enquiring phone calls...
I got pretty much "stone walled"..
They must have thought I was some sort of "animal rights activist" scout..?
 
I bet they had no end of negative phone calls and probably some fairly abusive ones at that.

Maybe they assumed you were one of the 'activists' as well?
 
It's not that there's no talk of future treatments using stem cells. There's a lot of research going on, as @DavidGrahamJones has mentioned. One day hopefully stem cells will provide treatments for many conditions. It would be wonderful.

But the stem cell clinics offering 'cures' online are scams. They claim to cure any number of conditions but have no studies and no evidence.

There is currently no cure for Type 1.
