Hey there,

diagnosis was in May 2017, started LCHF right away. Some weight was dropping. From about 96 Kg to about 83 Kg at the lowest. Fasting blood glucose has stayed rather elevated. Between 6.7 mmol and 7.2 mmol is what I reach. Gained some weight back, currently the scale shows about 87 Kg and I am somehow not happy, feeling rather tired.

HbA1c was in the normal range last time checked, only thing the doctor was worried about my low white blood cell count.

I am currently quite stressed working as a nursery nurse, in a setting where not enough staff is available.
I have tried eliminating dairy, now substituting my Saturday and Sunday coffee with almond milk.
During the week it depends whether I eat breakfast or just take tea with some butter (which will last the whole day)
If I eat breakfast it is usually eggs and bacon.

I only take a lunch box with me, when my period is about to be due.

For the evening I enjoy having my meat.......and salad or cauliflower........

Do you have any suggestions about actions to take? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi there @Undlosgehtes

Doesn’t sound like your food should be causing problems with either weight or blood glucose. Do you take readings other than FBG? The fasting number isn’t the best guide to overall control. What are your pre and post meal readings like?

When was the last HbA1c? Is it still in normal range?

You mention being tired and stressed. Have you ruled out anything other than diabetes being the cause for the weight gain/tiredness?

Sorry for all the questions - it’s hard to know what to advise on limited information.

Thank you Goonergal for the quick reply,

well must admit the information is small. And have not had many pre and post meal readings lately. But when I measure it seems alright about 5 mmol pre meal and 6.2 post meal. Underlying problem could also be thyroid. Actually I am blessed with an overactive thyroid, usually in the spring, but from the personal feeling I am more underactive thyroid.

The last HbA1c was taken in December and was 5.7% , fine I guess.

Probably will have to go to the doctor the get a check up.

Eating low carb, of course I will continue, because I have gotten so used to it now....and it has been helpful all the way

May be worth getting some tests done on your thyroid just to make sure but the post meal numbers look good to me really. Plus that is a great HbA1c too, well into the normal ranges so you're doing good there. I mean in my personal experience my figures in a morning only came down till I did some therapeutic fasting but everyone is different. Could you be eating more protein than you need? It's something to think about but it's good you're asking these questions!

Hi @Undlosgehtes welcome!
As somebody whose stress level is often up in orbit, I can tell you that for me, stress exhausts me. It could simply be work plus “spring fever”. Or allergies? Allergies can cause fatigue. Visiting your doctor to get more info about these low WBC counts sounds good, too.

If your lates HbA1c was in December, then 3 months on, it could be reasonable to ask for another, plus a broad panel of blood tests, just to check things out.

If you have an inefficient metabolism - quite usual with T2, plus thyroid challenges, you may have some additional, usually fairly minor challenges in play. With thyroid in particular, our vitamins need to be well in range (not low range, or just in range), in order for any thyroid medication we take to work well.

As you say, your thyroid being a bit off could explain things, but then feeling tired can be a sign of many, many things apart from diabetes or thyroid.

HI @Undlosgehtes, sorry to hear of your troubles.
Are you prescribed any medications? Either for diabetes or something else?
As side-effects may need to be thought about?
Also I have read that diabetics can tend to lose magnesium and may benefit sometimes from taking magnesium supplements,
at least until maybe there is something to change/add into one's diet.
And checking this info out first with DSN or doctor is suggested

Hey, thank you for your effort and replies,

appointment at the doctor is made.

Got myself a Freestyle Libre 2, to get a better overview about the effects of the different foods I consume.

For breakfast it was bacon and eggs

Then for lunch I had 1 cabbage turnip cut up raw

For Dinner it was a Duck's Breast, Cauliflower with melted butter and some roasted almonds.

So pretty low carb....I would assume...

Ketones when I test them are like 0,2

The libre curve on the reading device suggests there was quite a dip in the night, actually my lowest point was reached in the night. Can this have something to do with the tiredness?
