I went in hospital weighing 9 stone 10 and came out 10 stone 3 I'm not happy at all and this is one of the reasons I stopped taking my meds in the first place!! ***!!

I went down to 6 stone before being diagnosed at age of 17. I thought being slim was great!! I felt awful tho. Now 37 years later I am 11 stone and a size 12. I try to keep fit and healthy. You will go back to a stable weight but can eat healthily and keep to a reasonable weight. I thought being slim was everything. Years later it is more important to take you insulin and you will feel loads better. I am well controlled now and have no long term complications. I think that is more important than worrying if I am overweight or not. Good luck and stay strong

I really struggle an have spent 5 years not taking enough insulin. I have just completed a DAFNE course to help me count carbs and not have hypos, which can cause weight gain. I am also going to see a dietician and a diabetes psychologist to help with my weight issues. If you want to chat and work together on this let me know

Your doctor is probably referring to the DAFNE course - Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating. There is a lot of information about it on this site. It is a 5 day course for Type 1s, teaching you how to count carbohydrates and adjust your insulin accordingly.

It is quite intense as there is a lot of information to take in, but when you are ready I would highly recommend it!

Good luck!
