Hi

Hope you feel better soon, are you on Lantus long acting insulin as well as short acting insulin? the reason i ask is when i was put onto 4 injections a day i was put on Lantus and humalog and i started to put the weight on and when i spoke to my nurse she said Lantus can cause weight gain, so she moved me onto levemir instead and i have lost the weight through weight watchers and back to my normal weight and have not had any problems with the levemir insulin

good luck

tracey167.

Levemir was a god send for me too :)

I don't think you can blame insulin for that, it's more likely what you ate. A d your weight will fluctuate but about 3lbs per day anyway.

I've been on insulin for 6 months and only gained 5 pounds, and I actually could do with gaining a bit more since I lost a stone and a half before I was diagnosed. By eating a normal healthy diet there is no reason you should gain weight.

How about you tell is what you ate over a day? Portion size etc, and how much insulin you took. And someone can maybe give their advice on the food.

We're not medical experts though, we can only speak from experience

I went down to 6 stone before being diagnosed at age of 17. I thought being slim was great!! I felt awful tho. Now 37 years later I am 11 stone and a size 12. I try to keep fit and healthy. You will go back to a stable weight but can eat healthily and keep to a reasonable weight. I thought being slim was everything. Years later it is more important to take you insulin and you will feel loads better. I am well controlled now and have no long term complications. I think that is more important than worrying if I am overweight or not. Good luck and stay strong

I really struggle an have spent 5 years not taking enough insulin. I have just completed a DAFNE course to help me count carbs and not have hypos, which can cause weight gain. I am also going to see a dietician and a diabetes psychologist to help with my weight issues. If you want to chat and work together on this let me know

I do eat a lot of carbs.....I really don't know what I'm supposed to eat! I don't eat meat or fish either! And I do eat a lot of food! Think my doc mentioned something about going on a course..! Oh and some good news I get to go home today yeehaaa :) thanks for all your help/advice everyone x

Your doctor is probably referring to the DAFNE course - Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating. There is a lot of information about it on this site. It is a 5 day course for Type 1s, teaching you how to count carbohydrates and adjust your insulin accordingly.

It is quite intense as there is a lot of information to take in, but when you are ready I would highly recommend it!

Good luck!
