can anyone give me a receipe on how to make a curry from scratch. i rang my local restaurant to ask if they used sugar in any of their sauces and they said only in the mild ones. The thing is i dont trust them and as we know it might not be the sugar but the carbs thats the problem. any ideas anyone i am craving something chickeny and hot bit like a jalfrazi or madras. i suppose i cant use any of the sauces from the supermarket . i think more than 2g of sugar per 100g was to much. any advice anyone this is a craving now i have to deal with

hi bedshaped - you're right to be careful, supermarket sauces can be a bit tricky.
A basic Indian spice list would include chilli powder, ground turmeric, ground (or fresh) ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, nutmeg, cardamon. Or, a quick alternative is to buy a big bag of garam masala, which is a mixture of most of the above. You can make a pretty OK chicken curry with just garam masala, chillis, tomatoes and onions. Then lots of hot lime pickle on the side. I eat this kind of thing often, also vegetable curries (no rice or chapati, alas, though one poppadum seems to be OK) and don't experience high readings afterwards.

Hi,

some good ones here.....

Dont forget - If you must eat rice, then basmati rice is best for GI, but I avoid rice at all costs as it is high carb ...so...
...make "fake" rice.
Get a fresh cauliflour. Grate it with a cheese grater.
Do NOT add water
Microwave for 4 minutes.
I did a family curry party this week and made extra fake rice for the family to try and they loved it!.

Good Luck - Steve.

if anyone reads this i have come up with a brilliant curry receipe. 1 small tin of chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, garlic, 4g of curry powder 2g of paprika 2g of chilli powder and chiken tikka strips. add it all together and cook slowley on the hob. i used grated cauliflower for fake rice. Well let me tell you after nearly 1 year of not having a curry i was like a man that had one the lottery. outstanding and my partner was convinced i brought it down the rd and threw away the silver tray. even better 7,2 after 1 hour and 6.6 after 2. i think the whole curry works out about 9-10g of carb tops and im happy as a sandboy .
