Hi,
I just wondering if there is anyone that has had success cycling GLP-1 agonists.
My background I was diagnosed with GDM at 24 weeks with my 1st pregnancy, 16 years ago. I was under 30yrs and slim at the time, managed with insulin. Although I gained a lot of weight during that pregnancy. My blood sugar normalised after delivery lost most of the weight but had a residual 5kg weight.
2nd pregnancy was 10yrs ago in my 30s, was low carb 100g, on insulin. I was wiser and gained only 5kg the whole pregnancy blood sugar normalized again after delivery. Tried metformin during 2nd pregnancy and couldn't tolerate the side effects.
About 5yrs after 2nd baby self-diagnosed myself with diabetes (getting floaters in my eyes) had HBA1C 79, tried metformin as suggested by an endocrinologist couldn't tolerate the side effects, he suggest continue being managed as Type 2 and if poorly controlled we can consider further investigation re LADA.
Tried Victosa titrated to 1.2mg and went on keto (less than 20g carbs) and eventually discontinued Victosa after 6 months as HBA1C normalised.
Fast forward 2020 pandemic gained 5kg, had increase my carb intake to 100g as a lot was happening, and had to restart Victosa.
Now 2023, I have found now increasing need for Victosa despite 20-30g carb daily, now on 1.8g Victosa, fasting btw 8.8-9.8. although post-prandial 1-2 units rise never get above 9 post-meal. By the way, I have lost all the 5kg gained in the pandemic and I am 5kg heavier than my weight 16yrs ago.
I can't go below 20g daily, so 20-30g daily carb is a happy spot for me, my main question is that I have heard some people suggest that if they are on the same brand GLP-1 agonist for a while they become more tolerant of it, so needs a higher dose with time, hence they switch brands. I am considering switching to trulicity 1.5g to see if it may help with the fasting sugar. Has anyone tried the same with success?
I have contacted my endocrinologist secretary to get an appointment to get consultant input, but maybe July or later before an appointment is available
